Three values of Ethico
Fair trade is an approach to international trading centered around equitable partnerships, transparency and respect.
Our trading partners include members of Fair Trade Federation, World Fair Trade Organization, charities and enterprises with a focus on supporting of underprivileged artisan groups or marginalised communities.
We carefully select our suppliers to ensure the materials used are of finest quality and of course, also abiding to our values. Every product goes through a detailed quality check before they are dispatched. We would like to offer you products that are as superior as luxury brands but not as overly priced.
Environmental sustainability is a key focus to us. We target to offer higher quality products that are produced from sustainable processes and materials. Higher quality products means superior sourcing of materials which is more durable and can last longer.
Our products and your impact
Our beautiful jewelleries are handcrafted by artisans in need and survivors of trafficking. They are sourced from members of Fair Trade Federation which provide training and job opportunities to artisans and communities, including survivors of human trafficking, women’s groups, minorities, people with special needs, urban slums and isolated rural communities.
Our rattan collection is made by a Cambodian based enterprise. It is a social enterprise created to support rural Cambodian female artisans for a stable and sustainable future. One of the founders is a Dutch designer with Asian roots who has worked for 10+ years with renowned international design brands.
A large number of Cambodian women living in villages are unemployed and even if they do have a job, the average income is approximately HK$18 per day. With most of the families having between 3-5 children, it makes it almost impossible for them to survive. For female artisans who joined the enterprise, their family contribution has increased significantly by 100%.
Our cork collection is sourced from a brand established in Portugal by three young entrepreneurs who have a keen focus on protection of nature and animals. All products are handcrafted and manufactured by artisans in Portugal and are made with an amazing natural fiber - Cork.
Cork material comes from the bark of the cork oak tree, Quercus suber. The bark of a cork oak tree is removed every 9 years helping the tree to grow and live longer. Cork is quirky, sturdy and waterproof leather alternative. Unlike animal leather cork is naturally water resistant, renewable and completely recyclable, it is durable, light, and easy to keep looking good as new.
Knitted toys are made by female artisans who are supported by a registered charity in Zimbabwe. The business side of the charity is set up to give women who joined them the opportunity to earn a living wage (living wage (n.) – a wage sufficient for a worker and their family to live comfortably). The charity aims to create beautiful and unique products that are completely handmade, ethically produced, fairly traded and bring JOY!
Bibs and babies/kids apparels are made by female artisans in Ghana. They are sourced from a guaranteed member of the World Fair Trade Organization. The community has a keen focus on people and the environment. The apparels are made with GOTS certified organic cotton. Each item is hand-crafted using traditional techniques, maintaining local artisanal skills such as batiking, bead-making and Shea butter production.
Across our collections of bags, homeware and babies/kids products, there are varieties of products made by artisans across India and Bangladesh. All are supported by organizations with a strong commitment to provide sustainable livelihoods to the marginalized communities by leveraging the fair trade principles and practices, and to empower artisans by building and improving upon their relevant capacities and facilitating their access to services like marketing, finance, insurance, education etc.
Each purchase helps empower artisans through dignified and sustainable employment. When we are buying fair trade products, we are not only buying a gift or product, we are also delivering an important message - that we have the power to help those in need.
